Additional Notes

This photograph is from the personal collection of photographs taken by CPL William Stinson Brown while stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii before the infamous attack of 7 December 1941. CPL Brown was there during the attack. These unique photographs were donated to the COGG Honor Archive for public use of students, writers and researchers of history. The generous donation was from CPL William S. Brown’s son, William Stinson “Bill” Brown Jr., and his granddaughter, Caitlin Brown Clancy.

Original caption on accompanying card: “MAIN GATE GUARD, MAY 1940, PEARL HARBOR NAVY YARD, T.H. FRONT ROW L-R: PFC H.D. Reeves, CPL J.L. Farris, SGT C.R. Christenot, CORP J.A. Champagne, CORP G.D. COGG Note: Names cross-referenced against the Company “A” muster roll for the period 1–30 June 1940, the nearest surviving roster to this photograph’s May 1940 date. William S. Brown — this collection’s namesake — appears here as a Private, prior to his later promotion to Corporal.
