Description:
Bill reports the results of his corporal’s examination, ranking twelfth among thirty candidates, and discusses a proposal to replace Marine gate guards with civilian police. Accompanied by a full typed transcript for ease of reading.
Additional Notes
Note: Bill signs off here as “PFC. Brown” rather than simply “Bill” — a rare moment in this collection where he gives his own surname within the body of a letter, playing on his rank as a still-unpromoted Private First Class. The corporal’s exam results he reports here follow up on his mention of taking the exam in the Dec. 5, 1940 letter in this collection. This letter is accompanied by a full typed transcript, appended to the end of this scan, for ease of reading.
