The letters in this collection are presented exactly as William Stinson Brown wrote them between 1939 and 1945. Readers will encounter ethnic epithets, and other language that was common in that era but is offensive by today's standards. COGG has chosen not to alter, redact, or censor this language. Preserving primary sources exactly as written is standard archival practice — it maintains historical accuracy and allows the letters to be studied honestly. This language reflects the views and vocabulary of the era and of the individual author. It does not reflect the values, opinions, or endorsement of COGG (Conservators of the Greatest Generation).
